Sunny and Hot: R&R Part 2

Well, yesterday was a very busy and exhausting day at the Great Barrier Reef. Today, we all decided to have a free day to explore on our own.

Eric booked an Intermediate Dive at the Reef today by himself since he is PADI certified and wanted to check out the deeper waters. It was another amazing and HOT weather day so he had a great time since the rain stayed away.

Brad started out at the rooftop pool and then decided to check out the local wildlife zoo and pet some baby kangaroos and koalas.

I slept in until around 9am, walked around town and had some coffee and then hit the pool. The water was actually on the cold side which felt PERFECT since it was about 107 degrees out today with the heat index!

In between visits to the pool I also decided to throw in some laundry. The washer and dryer cycles are different than in the US and they are also smaller. They are ultra water efficient and the wash cycle is about 1 hours 43 minutes and the dyer setting is 1 hour and 40 minutes. That's three hours for about 1/2 a load of laundry. This would drive me crazy back at home when I'm done with all my laundry in about 1 hour and 20 minutes total.

I finished the afternoon off with a walk down to the sushi restaurant for lunch and stopped by the ice cream shop on the way home before jumping in the pool again to cool off.

We ended the day poolside with a wine and cheese party of our own making and it was a great way to end the day...

Tomorrow we are taking an all day tour of the Rainforest and other stops around town. It's so tropical up here in Port Douglas. Maybe because it's located in the Tropic of Capricorn. This is the northernmost spot I have been to in Australia. Here is a picture of where Port Douglas is located on the continent and a map with the equator.

Stay tuned for more adventures tomorrow on the next tour!
